FOR WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES?
Municipalities where ammonia is added, changing chlorine to chloramine.
HOW DO THEY WORK?
This water filter uses a particular variant of kdf that is effective at removing chloramines, and that form of carbon that is also best for chloramine removal. Chloramines are also further reduced by both the kdf and by the coconut carbon in the second canister of this filter. This is not a fluoride filter.
One of the reasons municipalities are using chloramines (made by adding ammonia) is that the disinfectant 'holds' longer and doesn't break down. By definition, that makes it harder to filter it out. This combination of filters should remove some 85% or more of chloramines from your drinking water.
The first canister has a full pound and a quarter of kdf formulated to remove chloramines. And over a pound of catalytic carbon, best for filtering chloramines. The second canister has two additional filter mediums - 1 1/4 pound of regular kdf to additionally reduce chloramines, remove free chlorine, chlorination by-products, heavy metals and more and to reduce hardness - and top-quality granulated coconut carbon that additionally reduces chloramines and filters organic compounds including organic-based drugs.
